Who's Bunkie, Anyway?

Author, Cowgirl, Admitted Chocoholic...

Bunkie Lynn, author of "A Comedy of Heirs,"  and "The Big Girls' Guide to Life," was born in Tucson, Arizona and raised in the American South. Bunkie desperately wanted to be a Cowgirl, but she talked too much, so she turned to journalism and edited her Beaumont, Texas high school newspaper. Due in part to her newspaper column, "Lime Jello," Bunkie was voted Wittiest Girl by her senior class. No doubt the election was rigged.

Bunkie attended the University of Texas at Austin (thankyouverymuch, 2005 NCAA Football National Champs, Hook 'Em, Horns!), where she served as a copy editor for The Daily Texan, a grip on Austin City Limits, and writer/producer/director of several short films. She graduated from UT with a BS in Radio-Television-Film, and worked for Carden & Cherry Advertising in Nashville, Tennessee, home of the "KnoWhutIMean, Vern?" campaigns.

Bunkie began writing at the age of seven, and although the lazy life of an author is her primary calling, she dutifully avoided a serious writing career through forays into advertising, public relations, international business management and motherhood.

Bunkie's beloved American South and its "isms" are the inspiration for her work. Bunkie's keen sense of wit and human observation makes for hilarious, often poignant reading, and her background in the visual arts helped her bring the characters in her novel "A Comedy of Heirs" to life on the page.

Bunkie's experiences as a "Big Girl with Attitude" are the basis for her sarcastically outrageous offering, "The Big Girls' Guide to Life," relaying in wickedly funny detail the struggles of a Plus-sized woman in today's body-obsessed society. This book was a 2004 ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Finalist, and reviewers laud "Big Girls' Guide" as a must-read for every woman with weight loss, relationship and hormonal issues!

When she's not chasing chocolate, Bunkie is hard at work on whatever pays the bills. Between speaking gigs, she's polishing a couple of things: a book about menopause (hey, it's comedy!), co-written with poet Jayne Jaudon Ferrer, and a sendup of Cajun culture and funeral parlor hijinks. She resides in Tennessee with her husband, son and two yellow Labs, and she still wants to be a Cowgirl. When she's not eating chocolate, you might catch Bunkie out shooting photos of funny signs, total goofballs, or Stupid Human Tricks.
